I always assumed Craig was gay. I'm not sure why — maybe the way he dressed, maybe the vibe he gave off in certain social situations. Apparently I was wrong, though by the time I figured that out I'd already filed him under people I didn't need to think about much.
He showed up at my Christmas party as Peyton's date. About forty minutes in he ditched Peyton to hit on Katie, which left Peyton at the opposite end of the bar getting leered at by Lester Penning. Peyton called an Uber. Craig didn't notice.
That was Craig at his best.
Then we find out that he'd knocked up a nurse who worked in his clinic. Nobody knew about that until the nurse went to jail for falsifying prescriptions for another doc she'd gone to work for after breaking up with him. We found out about this because he brought Katie to live with him and play stepmom to his little daughter.
Which is the extent of his interest in Katie. I guess. I don't even want to know.
He's a neurosurgeon, so he's good at something. The town takes that seriously enough that he gets invited to things and tolerated at events he probably shouldn't be welcome at. I get it — that's how these things work. But if you want the unvarnished version: nobody likes Craig. Nobody. He knows it, at some level, and has decided the credentials and the income are enough of a social substitute. Maybe he's right about that. I'm not going to be the one to argue the point.
There's also the Abby angle, but I'll leave that one there. Some things don't need a full accounting.
